While away we visited the medieval town of Guerande, it’s situation is in the middle of the Pays Blanc (white land) and the Pays Noir (Black Land) and this is because it is famous for the production of Salt and Peat! It’s a lovely fortified town with a moat and it’s pedestrianized so it’s lovely and quiet within the walls.

It has a very large church, possibly a cathedral and on one side there is a collection of posts/sculptures representing the occupations of the area. The ones with the rakes represent the salt workers.
I’m not sure how many accordionists and jousters there are presently though!!
And of course it has it’s fair share of tat shops for the tourists, although I did find this one very amusing, can you imagine making a living out of selling terracotta pigs? Great window display though!!
Those piggies are adorable! 🙂
Aren’t they cute? I can’t believe I didn’t buy one!!
