Well we’ve had a cracking day! It’s been brilliant and it’s just been rounded off by two Facetime sessions with my sisters so I’m happy as Larry. It’s so good to see them both and it’s made my day. I’m missing them loads but this has really recharged my batteries.
Anyway, what have we been up to today? We woke once again to blue skies, that sounds so flippant but I’m loving it. I don’t think I could ever tire of blue skies. As I walked Charlie on the dunes there were already people in the sea! At 7 am, that’s dedication for you.
We left Oliva and went via Denia, a place the hubster had been in the past to play golf and I wanted to have a quick peek, nice enough town but no more! We then decided to go to a lovely little town called Javea.
What we didn’t realise was that to get to Javea you have to drive through the mountain passes! We have a Harry not a goat! On top of that the driver’s vertigo isn’t getting any better, I would’ve rather have been lying on one of the couches at the back of the van with my head buried in a pillow but thought I should show willing! I was on the outside, and it wasn’t the easiest journey in the world,I desperately held in all the huffing and blowing that normally happens when I have a sheer drop to the side of me! However the scenery was truly breathtaking. By the time we got to Javea, we both had sweaty hands and wobbly legs! But we did it and we stopped for coffee in the most beautiful place, it kind of made up for it, Well nearly!!!!
We went past Benidorm and being the big snob that I am, thought I would hate it, however from the road we were on the views were truly incredible, massive, tall skyscraper hotels that were really magnificent. Some of them were works of art. There’s some clever architects over here you know! Unfortunately, during all my oohing and ahhing I hadn’t realised that my digital card was full and so those images will be etched into my memory and I won’t be able to share them with you. But I did capture some fabulous views in and around that area so here you go – these are for you…
We continued past Alicante and this is where I was blown away by the amount of building, the villas up on the hills, not an inch was spared! It was quite a sight and the view down the valley to the sea from the windows must have been amazing. I can see why so many people come here.
We arrived at Santa Pola where we had intended to stop for a couple of days, we went to the campsite that we had found on-line and let’s just say, we were disappointed! So we got back in to, a now wheezing Harry, and continued on our way, past the salt flats and some more incredible countryside.
We found a campsite – well it’s more of a Holiday Village, and although it isn’t what we would normally have considered this place is amazing. It has everything!!! We could live here forever and want for nothing! It has a supermarket, hairdressers, beauty salon (don’t think I’ll be going there!) beaches, restaurants, huge/massive pool with slides etc for the kids (but there are no kids so it’s really quiet!) A dog shampooing area (now that we will take advantage of!) the toilet and shower facilities are second to none with piped music no less! and on top of that our plot would hold 3 Harrys so we have plenty of room to stretch our legs (or clutter up with our clobber more like!) AND on top of that free wi-fi!! Well, we couldn’t say no, could we? In fact, we not only didn’t say no, we said “book us in for three nights”!!! So here we are in the lap of luxury and loving every minute of it. Hardly roughing it, not wild camping, well what the heck, it’s our trip and we’ll do as we please … and this is very pleasing!!!
Now then back to things Spain, on our trip we’ve noticed on many occasions ladies sat by the side of the road, I thought innocently they were selling fruit, veg or flowers, the hubster told me he was sure they were ladies of the night (actually we’ve seen them at 8 in the morning so hardly ladies of the night!). Also they seem to be in the middle of nowhere, on the side of dual carriageways, near orange groves and today I managed to catch this young lady set up on a roundabout. I hate to admit it but I think the hubster is right! If you know any different please let me know!!!
And here’s a couple of bonus photos that I thought were cute!!!
ah that was a lovley day wasnt it, pleased you have all the mod cons . its been quite warm again here but we are getting a storm very soon. met a woman today with an old lady dog poodle, i told her about charlie,s buggy and she is going to get one. Love the flamingo.s xxxx
Oh Yvonne, we had such a lovely time watching Charlie having such fun the other day although he’s tired and very clean today!! The pushchair really works if you can get over looking such a fool! We’re seriously thinking of getting bikes and a little thing at the back for Charlie!!! Then we’ll look total nutters!!
I love how you’re moving along at your own pace, changing plans as you go as you see fit. Thanks, as always, for sharing the adventure.
I think it’s the only way really given that we had no idea how Spain would be, then it’ll be on to Portugal and no doubt we’ll have to plan our trip differently there too. We’re settling now, although I must admit it hasn’t always been that easy. Strange situations making us look at what we’re doing and how we’re going to do it!!! But we’re getting there slowly. today has been a lovely quiet, pottering day. It’s been great, good to actually really relaxing
