Today really has been Charlie’s day! We woke once again to beautiful, blue skies and now mid afternoon it’s tipping 28 degrees!
This place is super for a holiday, I know, I know we set off on an adventure but we’ve seriously had to curtail any plans we had of exploring due to Charlie’s sudden deterioration, he can’t walk far at all, it’s far too hot to leave him in the motor home and it’s actually pretty hot out and about so we’ve had to make some compromises ie: Charlie comes first!!! In other words “What Charlie wants, Charlie gets” and we just fit in! It seems only fair, we started planning this trip when he was 12 and was a lunatic that we couldn’t stop, now he’s damn near senile and I swear he’s got selective deafness too!
So how did today pan out?
We got up at some unearthly hour (let’s just say the stars were still out!) The Hubster and I padded around the camp-site (me still in my pjs) with the dog in tow, desperately trying to find some grass for him to chomp on. He loves it, I don’t know why cos he just chucks it up after but he seems to like it. Grass, we’re in Spain they don’t have grass, lots of palm trees but no grass, so Charlie found some kind of leaf that did the trick! Ablutions complete – we all stagger back to bed!
Getting up time number 2!! We trek off to the beach, we’re told it’s 700 metres, they lie!!! Thank goodness I thought to take my trusty buggy eh? Charlie managed 200 metres and then asks to get in the buggy! He lies there like little Lord Fauntleroy! I swear if he could talk, he be shouting “faster, faster!”
We arrive at yet another perfect beach, young sir decides to check out the water, dipping in a toe! What a shock when a wave comes in – all two inches of it!!!
Then he sets about trying to find Australia! After much digging and frolicking he collapses in a heap and falls asleep. Time to go back to the van, by buggy of course.
I told you yesterday this camp-site has everything, well I kept the best for last, just have a look at this!! A beauty parlour for dogs, DIY but absolutely fantastic and even Sir Charles didn’t complain. We gave him a good shampoo, we drew the line at the hair-dryer in this heat though.
We got back to the van and Charlie promptly fell asleep until 5 minutes to 4 … yep, teatime and now he snores again.
Have “we” had a good time, well it’s probably not the best way to discover Spain but we’ve loved seeing Charlie so happy. Now he’s having another kip, we may just abscond and have a quick dip in the pool (he won’t even know we’ve gone if we’re quick!!)
I honestly can’t believe what this dog has been for the last 14 years, collected from Battersea Great Windsor, he’s bitten me, he’s run away from me, he’s totally ignored me (for nearly 4 years!) and now just when he is positively the bestest dog in the world he has me looking a total mad woman pushing him round in a pushchair, if I didn’t know better I would think he planned it!!
I hope you enjoy the photos of our exploration of Spain or as I mentioned earlier Charlie’s Day Out!!
Take care all.
