Hi there everyone,
I want to just say ‘hi’ to my new followers, thank you and I hope you won’t be too bored with my ramblings!!!
Now then,, what’s happened today?
We got up and walked Charlie down to the beach, this dog is amazing, OK so he may be deaf and he may be nearly 15 years old but get him on a beach and he turns back the clock! He runs, he smiles and he digs holes in the sand, as they say it’s a dog’s life! I think I can say with hand on heart that he is one happy hound!
We set off from Isla Cristina for the border with Portugal, where surprisingly we were stopped by the customs officers. All I can say is that it was a delight. We had a lady officer who was so lovely, she wanted to know where we were from, where we were going, how long we would be there, how much money we’d spent in Spain!!!! And finished off with a lovely ‘Happy Christmas’!
We have heard talk of mayhem when it comes to Portugal’s motorways, we must be lucky … it seemed pretty straightforward, we probably did everything wrong!!! We inserted our credit card and it connects it to the registration plate of Harry then when we use this, particular, motorway we are charged accordingly. It isn’t huge bucks and it seems only logic for us to pay for motorways, it will get us there quicker and more safely than taking all the back roads.
We stopped for a coffee on the way and to let Charlie out, we did notice a very, low-flying helicopter and I feared that maybe we had done everything incorrectly and they were coming ‘to get us’!
We are now just outside Albufiera, we did get a couple of glimpses of it as we approached, we may pop over in the morning although I don’t feel ‘the need’ if you know what I mean.
My first impressions of Portugal are that it is very green and lush, not really what I was expecting. Of all the people we have met so far, customs officials, lady in a cafe (who helped us when lost) and the campsite staff have been incredibly smiley and welcoming. I like Portugal … so far!
We are on a campsite that has every possible amenity, pools, sports, disco!!, bars, restaurants, supermarket, electricity and wifi for the princely sum of 14.50Euros, I like Portugal even more!!
We are here and most of the afternoon has been spent catching up with friends and family either by Skype or Facetime it’s been fabulous to see their faces and have a decent chat instead of seeing them freeze with some ghastly grimace as the internet cuts out!
We have only a couple of places we want to see in Portugal and then are perhaps planning to go back to southern Spain and take advantage of the lovely sunshine.
I am always amazed at the amount of flowers that are still in bloom down here, it lifts the spirits. We are parked under an Almond tree which sounds so delightful although I’m sure if one drops on the roof tonight, it will frighten the living daylights out of me!!
Here are some photos taken yesterday and today, hope you enjoy.
